Empress Eugénie's summer residence (1854) on the Atlantic shore in Biarritz. A hotel since 1893, with “Palace” status.
The Hôtel du Palais in Biarritz grew out of the summer residence of Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III. The villa was built in 1854 in Second Empire style to a design by Hippolyte Durand, with later work by the architect Louis-Auguste Couvrechef. It was called Villa Eugénie until 1893, when it became a hotel.
Its façades and roof were listed as French historic monuments in 1993. It has held Palace status since 2011 and today belongs to The Unbound Collection by Hyatt.
Sea-facing rooms look onto the Grande Plage and the Atlantic.
