A neoclassical palace of 1783–1787 in Sintra — part of a UNESCO cultural landscape, now a hotel.
Seteais Palace is a neoclassical palace in Sintra, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Cultural Landscape of Sintra”. Today it is a luxury hotel.
The palace was built in 1783–1787 for the Dutch consul Daniel Gildemeester on land obtained from the Marquis of Pombal.
The origin of the name is disputed: one legend says the echo here repeats “ai” seven times (sete ais), another that the word comes from rye fields (centeio).
