Saint Petersburg, Russia
An 1875 hotel on the corner of Nevsky Prospekt and Mikhailovskaya Street with Art Nouveau interiors by Fyodor Lidval.
The Grand Hotel Europe (the Hotel Yevropeiskaya in Soviet times) occupies the entire odd-numbered side of Mikhailovskaya Street off Nevsky Prospekt. The building was constructed in 1873–1875 to a design by the architect Ludwig Fontana.
In 1907–1914 Fyodor Lidval remodelled the interiors in Art Nouveau style, and Leon Benois created the stained-glass window and the ceiling of the dining hall.
The hotel opened in February 1875. It was fully restored in 1989–1991 and was later managed by Reso, Kempinski and Orient-Express (Belmond). Belmond stopped managing the hotel in 2023.
The windows look onto Mikhailovskaya Street, Arts Square and Nevsky Prospekt.
