Banff, Canada
The Canadian Pacific Railway's “château” hotel on the shore of turquoise Lake Louise in Banff National Park.
Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise stands on the eastern shore of Lake Louise near Banff (Alberta). It was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway at the turn of the 20th century — like the Banff Springs Hotel and the Château Frontenac.
The oldest surviving part is the 1913 Painter Wing; the wooden Rattenbury Wing burned down in 1924 and was replaced by the Barott Wing. The new Mount Temple Wing opened in 2004. The surrounding area is part of Banff National Park.
