An Aman hotel in the Menoreh Hills facing Borobudur temple (9th century, UNESCO): a limestone rotunda and suites with private pools.
Amanjiwo (“peaceful soul”) lies in the Menoreh Hills near Magelang in Central Java, facing the Buddhist temple of Borobudur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel opened on 16 October 1997 and is run by Aman.
Designed by Ed Tuttle: a temple-like building with columns of local paras yogya limestone, 36 suites in a semicircle around a central rotunda, and a 40-metre green-tiled main pool among the rice fields.
Limestone walls, domed ceilings, terrazzo, sungkai-wood screens, coconut-wood and rattan furniture, batik.
Some suites face Borobudur, others the gardens with private pools.
For trips centred on culture and architecture, and sunrises at Borobudur.
